Perform these tasks while demonstrating the highest standard of professional behavior and by exhibiting the integrity, honesty and fairness required for ethical conduct.

Place the public's welfare above all other interests and serve the best interest of the citizens and guests of DeLand, while aspiring to perform the chief function of government which is to serve the best interest of all people.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Building Division, which includes permitting and inspections, is responsible for making sure that all new or improved structures meet state building code and local ordinance requirements. Work is divided into three major activities: permit processing, plans examination and construction inspection. Front counter personnel receive building permit applications, check contractors for required licenses, issue permits and maintain records. Plans are examined to ensure all construction meets the requirements of codes, regulations and other ordinances. Field inspections are conducted to assure all new improvements are being constructed in accordance with approved plans and all applicable construction codes.

Important Reminder: Contracting Work Licensure in Florida

As part of our commitment to professionalism and compliance, we want to remind everyone that it is a felony in the state of Florida to perform contracting work without a valid license. (Florida Statute 489.12(1)(f)) This applies to both residential and commercial projects.

Why is this important? Working without the appropriate licensure not only poses legal risks but can also compromise the quality and safety of the work being done. Ensuring that all contracting activities are performed by licensed professionals helps maintain the integrity of our industry and safety of our citizens.

What Should You Do?

If you come across any instances of unlicensed contracting work, please report it to us immediately. You can send your concerns to Building@deland.org or call us at 386-626-7007. Your vigilance is crucial in helping us uphold standards within our community.

Thank you for your attention and cooperation!

Roofing Contractors and Owner/Builders Please Read

Permits are required to perform re-roofing and inspections for the re-nailing of the sheathing (if required), the underlayment, and final inspection are mandatory. A one-time pass will be allowed if inspections are missed as long as all of the inspections are verified by a licensed Florida Engineer or Architect and said affidavit approved by the Building Official.

A second pass will not be allowed for anyone who misses these State Mandated Inspections. If it should happen a second time, all of the work that was done will be required to be removed and installed in the proper order with passing inspections with no exceptions.

All permits are required to conform to current Florida Building Codes, Florida Fire Prevention Codes, and National Electric Codes as adopted.

Attention Contractors
